About the music

Moonlight Sonata, 3rd mvt by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827). Piano Sonata No. 14, Op. 27 No. 2, 1801.

  • Beethoven never called it "Moonlight": a critic gave it that nickname after his death.
  • Everyone knows the calm 1st movement. This finale, Presto agitato, is a storm.
  • He was already losing his hearing when he wrote it.
